Katie Targett-Adams

Hailed as ‘the next crossover music star’ (Scotsman, October 2004), Katie Targett-Adams is a leading singer/songwriter and solo Celtic harpist. Katie’s contemporary interpretations of Scottish music and tradition, which blend her enchanting voice with the evocative sounds of the ancient Celtic harp (clarsach), have led to her award as Music and Culture Icon for Scotland, 2003.

Her worldwide tours through Europe, USA, Canada and China have ensured that Katie Targett-Adams has become a modern day minstrel and dazzling ambassador for Scotland. 2004 has seen Katie Targett-Adams release her latest CD, ‘KTA’, featuring the most popular songs from her live set.

Within Scotland, Katie Targett-Adams performs her unique brand of contemporary and Celtic music in the most beautiful castles and aboard the celebrated Royal Yacht Britannia. On 9 October 2004, Katie performed at the opening of the Scottish Parliament building attended by Her Majesty the Queen.

After the resounding success of her first tour to China in 2003, with audiences totalling 35,000, Katie Targett-Adams was invited back by the Chinese Ministry of Culture to perform in the 4th International Baoshan Festival in Shanghai in 2004. Whilst in China, Katie Targett-Adams performed with the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Beijing’s Forbidden City Concert Hall and at the official functions held by the First Minister of Scotland, Jack McConnell.

On April 6, 2005, Katie played (and modelled!) as part of the Tartan Day celebrations in Dressed to Kilt.

With television appearances in Spain, Germany, USA, China and on the BBC, as well as BBC radio exposure, Katie Targett-Adams is at the forefront of popularising this sensuous Celtic instrument and introducing it to a mainstream audience.

With effect from January 2007, Katie is splitting her time between Edinburgh and Hong Kong.  Operating on such a global basis, Katie is able to keep even more fans enthralled on an ongoing basis.  Her popularity in the Mainland is growing at a phenomenal pace, where her singing in their language, Putonghua, is a huge hit!
